vii) Gender roles and Sexuality from Indian/Hindu Mythology- IAGP Shiva Shakthi

‘ Shiva Shakthi ‘ – The union of Sacred masculine and feminine consciousness that lies within us and throughout the Cosmos.

As part of the collaboration between Indian Institute of Psychodrama(IIP) and the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and group processes (IAGP), we have organised a series of talks for students who are attending the Introduction to group psychotherapy course using psychodrama and group analysis. The title of the IAGP India project is Shiva Shakthi. To understand groups in India irrespective of what religion or faith we belong and which part of India, we are from – it is important to understand that our psyche is carrying symbols, meanings, models of behavior that we may either embrace or reject. IIP is opening up this session to all those who are interested in Indian culture and mythology.

Shiva is responsible for creation, upkeep and destruction of the universe, this destruction is to recreate. Shakthi is the dynamic energy which is also to create, sustain and destroy. Shiva and Shakthi are the masculine and the feminine version of the same energies which cannot be separated from one another. This interactive session on gender roles and sexuality will be lead by Prof Mangai.
