Indian Institute of Psychodrama and Vathil foundation share a similar vision of promoting mental health and wellbeing. We have collaborated to help you dive into the inner realm of yourself through psychodrama.
Step into the Portal of life is a workshop that will help you work on the unfinished aspects of your past and give you a vision for the future.
What is Psychodrama?
Psychodrama is essentially a group-action method. Psychodrama is used in various settings like in corporate context for team building, conflict management, stress management, identifying and working with stress, improving communication, building trust, identifying issues etc. It is also an effective therapeutic tool in clinical settings. This method is spontaneous and creative when used by a well-trained and certified Psychodramatist, who is usually called the Psychodrama director.
To be a certified Psychodrama director, one needs to have 800 hours training under a certified psychodrama trainer, who has trained to be a trainer for a minimum of 3 years.
At the end of the Step into the Portal of Life workshop Participants will have an:
- Opportunity to experience various roles like: Auxiliary role/the role of a protagonist/Audience
- Experience of learning some techniques used in psychodrama
- All participants will receive 14 certified hours of Psychodrama training from Indian Institute of Psychodrama.
Psychodrama training is at 3 levels( please read below for more information).

Timing: 9.30 am – 5.30 pm IST

Fees:
First 10 participants to register will pay – Rs. 5,500. After which,
Participants will have to pay Rs. 6,000 only.

Magdalene Jeyarathnam
Magdalene is a certified Psychodramatist and certified Psychodrama trainer. She is the founder and director of Indian Institute of Psychodrama (IIP), which is the first formal Psychodrama training institute in India. She is elected to the board of directors of International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes (IAGP). She conducts various workshops within India as well as internationally. She is the course director for the Advanced Post graduate diploma in Psychodrama, which is a collaboration between IIP and Tata institute of Social sciences (TISS). She is also a faculty for the M.Sc. program with specialization in Psychodrama at the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong. Her most recent workshops have been to “Explore dreams through Psychodrama” and “Exploring Fairytales through Psychodrama”. More information on Psychodrama training:
Level 1:
This offers 200 hours of training at the end of which a participant can take on any role and will receive an “Auxiliary Ego” certificate. All trained – psychologists/ counsellors/ mental health professionals can do small pieces of action with this training. However, to do larger dramas one needs to be trained more.
Level 2:
Level 2 offers to all those who have completed level 1 and at this level participants get 300 hours of psychodrama training, including 60 hours of supervised internship. At the end of this training, participant can be an assistant to a psychodrama director. The participant will receive a “Psychodrama Assistant” certificate after completing level 1 and level 2. This training is enables one to do psychodrama vignettes, small dramas that are both interpersonal and intra personal.
Level 3:
Level 3 training is offered to those who have completed 500 hours and this training offers 300 hours of Psychodrama training and focuses on helping the participant become a Psychodrama director. At the end of which you are ready to appear for a practical exam which will certify you to be a Psychodramatist.The examiner will not be a faculty of the institute or someone who has knows you from before, but is a person who is well known in the field.
